Very rarely do I give a blatantly bad review of a restaurant, but here it goes... Xtra's Cafe
This Carytown restaurant tries very hard, but seems to miss the mark every time I eat here. I honestly wonder what goes on in the kitchen here. They did not have enough coffee mugs for our party's order and then our server asked if we still wanted our last coffee we ordered when they finally got them. On top of that, our creamer came out in a creme brûlée container, not an adequate serving dish. Likewise our table only had Splenda and when I did manage to find some sugar, some of the packets were open already.
Our food also took over 1 hour to prepare. When we finally did get our food, I was not impressed. The crust on my quiche was overcooked--as if the quiche went straight from the freezer to the oven and the side of fruit consisted of overripe blueberries, oranges(which were still on the rind and not appetizing), green apples and one strawberry. I will say, that the flavor of the quiche was good though.
A restaurant this busy should have their manager present walking around checking on tables ensuring the happiness of their guests. However, there was no management to be found.
I will not be eating here again by choice. Food gets a C+, Service gets a D. Overall experience gets a C-. There is so much I wish I could do to help out this place. After having worked in a restaurant for years in high school, college and beyond I understand that it's often not the wait staff's fault for issues that the tables experience, however these opportunities to improve are present every time I eat here. My boyfriend and I even returned to this establishment on this day to watch a basketball game at their bar (they have two big screen tvs), and there was what looked to be someone managing the books sitting there. He didn't seem stressed out by the service from that morning or concerned about the way that morning's brunch experience had gone. I honestly think there is a lack of caring at this Carytown location.
