My boyfriend and I went to The White Horse Tavern for some late night dinner last night and discovered that the spot was closing.
While the food was decent, not my absolute favorite, but not the worst--I am excited to see what is to come in its spot! This Forest Hill location was bought by Kendra Feather, owner of The Roosevelt, Garnett's Cafe, and Ipanema Cafe, which are some of my favorite restaurants in Richmond. So I guess the saying is true, "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." Or maybe that's just the 90's kid in me singing away today. Regardless, this spot has a lot of potential with its location and the ability to open the windows during warmer nights.
One thing the White Horse Tavern did miss on, was the decor, or should I say ambiance instead. We were eating there around 9:00PM and the place smelled of cleaning products, as if they had already closed down for the evening. While I appreciate the sentiment to clean up, when your bar is still bumping and there are still 3 or 4 tables eating in the dining room, I don't think it's appropriate to close up shop and completely sanitize the joint.
I cannot wait to see them give the spot a face-lift and revamp the menu. Stay tuned for a review of the new spot when it opens!
